Upcoming AHPRA Guidelines for Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures: What They’ll Mean for You
At Beauty Reclaimed Cosmetic Centre Mudgee, we’ve always believed that safety, ethics, and trust should form the foundation of every cosmetic treatment — and we welcome the upcoming national AHPRA guidelines designed to protect the wellbeing of all Australians.
From September 2025, these new rules will introduce stricter regulations around how non-surgical cosmetic procedures are advertised, assessed, and delivered. While these changes are out of our hands, we wholeheartedly support them — especially their focus on protecting younger and more impressionable individuals from harm or unrealistic expectations.
We’re proud to say Beauty Reclaimed has already proactively tightened our advertising and consultation processes in response to previous AHPRA guidance. These new guidelines will simply formalise the high standards we’ve always upheld.
🧠 What Will the New Guidelines Involve?
The updated AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) rules will outline stronger expectations for how non-surgical cosmetic procedures are handled. Key elements include:
-
In-depth suitability assessments: Practitioners will be required to assess client mental health, motivations, and expectations before treatment — including screening for concerns like Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).
-
Stricter consent requirements: Clients must receive clear, comprehensive information about the procedure’s risks, benefits, alternatives, and costs. Written consent will be mandatory for both the procedure and the use of any images.
-
Tighter advertising restrictions: Promotions, giveaways, inducements, or “before and after” photos will no longer be permitted.
-
Higher standards for practitioners: Only appropriately trained and qualified health professionals will be allowed to perform these procedures. Nurses will need to meet updated education and experience requirements, and all practitioners must be prepared to manage complications and emergencies.
🏥 What This Will Mean at Beauty Reclaimed
As the only in-house, nurse-led cosmetic clinic in Mudgee, we already pride ourselves on offering a safe, medically guided, and personalised experience. These new changes will only strengthen the framework we’ve already built.
